Damp Proofing

Structural dampness is the presence of unwanted moisture in the structure of a building, either the result of intrusion from outside or condensation from within the structure.

The basic signs of damp are blistering paint; discolouration of paint; damp/wet spots; musky smell; stains on your ceiling; wet carpet and rotting skirtings.

thermal

Lateral Damp

Lateral damp is when moisture is allowed to enter the structure in a horizontal direction. Gravity then causes the downward movement of the damp into other areas. Lateral damp can create isolated patches of dampness that increase in size after periods of heavy rain.

Lateral damp is usually from a source too difficult to control and only an expert with a thermal imaging camera and in some cases a moisture metre detector will evaluate the difference in rising and lateral damp.

Rising Damp

Rising damp is a condition where moisture from the ground travels up through the pores in the bricks and mortar of a building.

Damp can cause structural problems and pose serious health risks – so make sure your home is damp proofed properly now.

Waterproofing

Keeping water from seeping into building materials is an important aspect of construction or building repair. Basements, underground storage areas, and underground parking garages all have something in common.

Many types of waterproof membrane systems are available.

Roofing

If you own a home long enough, sooner or later you will have to consider reroofing. If you suspect problems, make a thorough inspection of your roof.

Roof tiles or slates will usually last from 20 to 40 years, depending on local climate, the quality of the tiles, quality of installation and with regular maintenance. If your roof is over 20 years old, it should be inspected yearly.

Rainwater

Rainwater tanks, traditionally an icon of the rural areas and farms, are becoming a more common feature in urban communities; more and more households are installing a tank on their property.

The best time to install a rainwater tank is when you don't need it. Fitting your tank at the beginning of your wet season will ensure that you have as much water as possible to sustain you during the dry season.
